Release Parties 1 AND 2!

Due to recent developments, the Discovery Passage Aquarium will not just be celebrating one release party, we will be celebrating two. We have found that a large number of volunteers and participants will not be available to attend during the long weekend, so we are saving some of our releases for the following weekend.

The two release parties will be celebrated on Monday, September 2nd, 2019 and Saturday September 7th, 2019

Release Party Round 1 (September 2nd, 2019)!

We will be open for regular operation up until 12:00PM and we will be reopening at 1:00PM for our first release party. We will be releasing our intertidal species such as shore crabs, small fishes, moon snails and sea urchins!

  • At 1:00PM, we will begin lining up volunteers outside of the aquarium, and begin bringing out animals in buckets.
  • Each bucket will contain species that are designated for release in specific habitats around the aquarium. These include the Discovery Pier, Fisherman’s Wharf, and the beach next to the Explorer Lab.
  • At each station we will have a volunteer or staff member to guide and assist you in releasing the animals!
  • After your animals are released, you may line up again to get another batch of animals for release.
  • At the beach next to the explorer lab, we will also be hosting a beach cleanup for those interested in helping us clean up the environment we are releasing our animals back into.

September 1st 2019 will be our last full day of operation until next year!

Release Party Round 2 (September 7th, 2019)!

Our second release party will follow a similar structure to the first release party, the difference being we will be releasing the remainder of the sea life in our aquarium, including the salmon and larger fishes!

We hope to see you in the coming weeks!

Ricky
