The Discovery Passage Aquarium is now hiring for permanent and summer positions!
We offer fun and unique hands-on educational experiences for people of all ages. Come to see, touch and feel our incredible local marine species and habitats and discover the diverse marine life of Discovery Passage and Islands. The Aquarium is open from spring until fall each year. Specimens from representative local species are collected from the marine environment in the spring and returned to the area of collection at the end of the season.

Permanent Positions:
Education & Stewardship Coordinator (One position available):
Under the direction of the Aquarium Curator & Manager, the Education & Stewardship Coordinator is responsible for the operation of the Discovery Passage Explorer Lab and its programs, including the supervision of Educators. Through the Explorer Lab, the Education & Stewardship Coordinator orchestrates all school programs, summer/spring break/after-school camps, and stewardship events.
Summer Positions:
Educator (Two positions available):
Under the guidance and supervision of the Education & Stewardship Coordinator, Educators assist with developing and delivering marine natural history interpretive and educational programs for the Discovery Passage Aquarium and Explorer Lab. This will include hosting birthday parties, summer camps, public presentations and other programs for the general public. Educators will engage with program participants and visitors, conduct demonstrations and deliver specialized programming.
Aquarist (Two positions available):
Working under the direction of the Aquarium Curator & Manager, Aquarists are responsible for the successful operation of the Discovery Passage Aquarium, including the husbandry of aquarium animals, maintenance, cleaning of exhibits, and oversight of Interpreters. Duties related to guest experience and sales/cashiering are also to be expected. Previously, this position was called the "Senior Interpreter" role.
Interpreter (Two positions available):
Working under the direction of the Aquarium Curator & Manager, and with the guidance of Aquarists, Interpreters are responsible for the ongoing day-to-day operation of the Discovery Passage Aquarium. This includes duties related to guest experience, sales & cashiering, and basic animal husbandry. Previously, this position was called the "Junior Interpreter" role.
Volunteer Coordinator (One position available):
The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for the coordination of the volunteer evening program, which extends the operating hours of the aquarium from 4:30PM to 7:30PM, Thursdays to Mondays. This role includes the recruitment, retention, and recognition of aquarium volunteers. Additional duties will include animal husbandry, events coordination, and basic administrative duties.
