Join us for 10 weeks of ocean fun! Designed for students in Grades K–6, these fun, interactive sessions blend outdoor exploration, lab work, and creative projects, all with an ocean twist.
Location: Explorer Lab, Campbell River
Dates: Wednesdays (Juniors, Grades K–2) & Thursdays (Seniors, Grades 3–6), Age exceptions can be made, especially to include siblings in the same session
Time: flexible drop off between 3:00-3:30 PM and pick up at 5:00 PM
Pricing: $15 per class or $135 for the full 10-week program (all materials included)

Weekly Themes
Week 1 (Jan 14-15) – Into the Kelp Forest!
Kick off the season by diving into one of Campbell River's most important marine ecosystems: the kelp forest. We will learn about what they are and why they are so important to the health of ocean communities.
Week 2 (Jan 21-22) – All about Octopuses
Learn about one of the ocean's most captivating and strange creature. We will explore their lifecycle, their diet and their impressive intelligence and really get into the mind of the octopus by creating our own "sock-topus" craft.
Week 3 (Jan 28-29) – Sleeper Shark Showcase
These gentle giants are normally found in frigid ocean depths, but when one washed up on Stories Beach last year, we got the amazing opportunity along with DFO to deep dive into these amazing creatures through study and dissection. In this program, we will learn about what we found and about sleeper sharks in general.
Week 4 (Feb 4-5) – Exploring Ocean Landscapes
As requested by students in the fall session After School Club, this week we will learn about underwater geography. From active volcanos to deep trenches, ocean landscapes are anything but what you might expect.
Week 5 (Feb 11-12) – Ocean & Art
Science meets creativity! Make an ocean-themed arts and crafts project and maybe even some early Valentine's Day celebrations.
Week 6 (Feb 18-19) – Who Lurks in the Mud?
This week, we will learn all about mudflats and their inhabitants. from mud worms to mudskippers, there is a lot to learn about this unassuming ecosystem.
Week 7 (Feb 25-26) – The Ice Age on Vancouver Island
Learn about how ice ages occur, how glaciers move and how animals adapt. We will make our very own "glaciers" and learn about signs of glaciation to spot all around us here in Campbell River (even our very own Big Rock)!
Week 8 (Mar 4-5) – Microscope Exploration
Discover the amazing world of microorganisms through hands-on use of microscopes. We will collect plankton to observe under the microscope as well as some prepared samples to explore the incredible details we can't see with the naked eye.
Week 9 (Mar 11-12) – Whales, Whales, Whales
Learn about one of the most beloved creatures of our coasts. We will discover how they live, eat, and play through experiments, crafts, and observation.
Week 10 (Mar 18-19) – Treasure Hunt
Wrap up the season with an exciting treasure hunt. We will learn how to read maps and use compasses, all in the hopes of solving the mystery clues and locating the long-lost treasure.
