Winter Solstice Beach Cleanup
We celebrated the first day of winter with a frosty morning beach cleanup at Willow Point. With the help of six volunteers, we cleared almost 10lbs of trash from the beach, not including the whole fiberglass boat we dragged off the shore for later removal!
Campbell River has over 14km’s of shoreline, providing the community access to extraordinary coastal ecosystems and recreational opportunities. To continue to enjoy these benefits we must be good stewards of our coastal environment. Shoreline cleanups are a small way we can fulfill this obligation and ensure the community can enjoy a trash free shoreline, now and in the future.
This event was completed as part of the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup, an initiative aimed at inspiring Canadians to keep all shorelines free of litter. Part of this initiative involves recording data about what type of litter is being collected, to better understand sources of pollution and inform future education and outreach actions. This was our last event of 2021, but we'll be back in the new year with more shoreline cleanups and other fun ways for you to get involved with our oceans!
