Have an incredible birthday party at the Discovery Passage Explorer Lab! You and your guests will get to meet and learn about many amazing creatures in the Aquarium’s wet lab, learn about how it works behind the scenes, make a marine-themed craft, and enjoy some time for cake. Our 2 hour booking includes a variety of activities that we can put together for you. How you would like to spend your time is up to you!
There are many different activities to choose from, including the following:
- Touch tanks in the Wet Lab (20 minutes)
- We bring out animals in touch tanks in our 'wet lab' for children to touch and learn about
- Plankton Exploration (15 minutes)
- We have a handful of microscopes that hook up to a large TV for children to view, this includes zooplankton and phytoplankton. We do a plankton tow off the end of the discovery pier, so the plankton is alive and fresh.
- Please note, plankton abundance varies through the year, and winter plankton tows may not produce much to look at.
- Hermit Crab Craft (25 minutes)
- We have a paper bag craft that is very simple and easy to complete for young children, We use this craft as part of one of our school programs, so if your children are in Kindergarten/grade 1 they have likely done this one. Let us know if this is the case and we can come up with another craft idea!
- Free time with Puppets (10 minutes)
- Does not have to be scheduled in, this can be done at any time.
- Aquarium visit (30 minutes)
- Head over to the aquarium for a brief visit. Please note, this is only availabe when the aquarium is open for the spring/summer season.
