The Discovery Passage Aquarium is thrilled to announce that we will be reopening our doors to the public on Saturday, June 27th at 10:00AM. We will be operating with our regular hours of 10:00AM to 5:00PM everyday until the beginning of September.
As we reopen the aquarium, the health and wellbeing of our staff, volunteers, and visitors remains the first consideration of every decision we will continue to make. Over the previous month, we have been developing safety plans to reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19 in the Aquarium and Explorer Lab. As Phase 2 of the BC Restart Plan progresses, we will continue to take direction from the B.C. Ministry of Health and Provincial Health Officer.
When visiting the Discovery Passage Aquarium this summer, you can expect enhanced cleaning practices, a mindfully reduced visitor capacity, and a schoolof socially-distant salmon emblazoned on the floor to help you visualize two meters of distance.
The Discovery Passage Aquarium, the Ucluelet Aquarium, and many other small, community aquariums convened in mid-May to discuss how best we can protect our visitors, staff, volunteers, and animals under current circumstances. Due to the risk of contamination of residual chemicals from hand sanitizers and soaps, touch tanks will be an ‘eyes only’ exhibit this season.
If you wish to take a closer look at what the visitor experience will look like, Click here to view our COVID-19 visitor protocols, or reach us by telephone prior to your visit at 1(250)914-5500. We look forward to welcoming you back!
