Our Ocean Explorers After School Clubs are back this fall! Designed for students in Grades K–6, these fun, interactive sessions blend outdoor exploration, lab work, and creative projects, all with an ocean twist.

Location: Explorer Lab & local field sites, Campbell River
Dates: Wednesdays (Juniors, Grades K–2) & Thursdays (Seniors, Grades 3–6), Age exceptions can be made, especially to include siblings in the same session
Time: flexible drop off between 3:00/3:30 PM and pick up at 5:00 PM
Pricing: $15 per class or $135 for the full 10-week program (all materials included)

Weekly Themes

Week 1 (Oct 1–2) – Intro to Marine Biology
Kick off the season with a visit to the aquarium and a beach field trip. Students will discover local marine life and start their “Ocean Passport.”

Week 2 (Oct 8–9) – Salmon Walk
Explore the salmon life cycle with games and a guided river walk to observe salmon in action. Pick up and drop off will be at the Canyon View Trail Head (Just across the bridge at 2569 Gold River Hwy).

Week 3 (Oct 15–16) – Plankton Party
Learn about the tiny but mighty plankton through a tow, microscope investigation, and fun activities.

Week 4 (Oct 22–23) – Seaweed
Head to the beach to collect and study seaweed, then investigate under the microscope and make a beautiful seaweed press to take home.

Week 5 (Oct 29–30) – Spooky Ocean Dissection
Get into the Halloween spooky season with a guided dissection in the wet lab (animal varies). Includes presentation, hands-on exploration, and art.

Week 6 (Nov 5–6) – Ocean & Art
Science meets creativity! Make an ocean-themed arts and crafts project and even a ocean slime to bring home.

Week 7 (Nov 12–13) – History of the Ocean
Travel back in time with fossils, ancient sea creatures, a paleontology dig, and your very own fossil-making activity.

Week 8 (Nov 19–20) – Deep Sea
Discover creatures of the deep through videos, creative crafts, and a glowing scavenger hunt in the lab.

Week 9 (Nov 26–27) – Special Guest: TBA
Meet a local ocean expert and dive into their field of study. Topic will vary depending on guest.

Week 10 (Dec 3–4) – Life in the Ocean
Wrap up the season with a life-sized salmon survival game and a celebration of everything learned.
